Furukawashiko Chiyogami Paper - Small

$8.00

Small squares of chiyogami by Furukawashiko, fanned into a compact bundle bound with metal clips, each sheet carrying its own pattern: plum blossoms on indigo, chrysanthemums on gold, cranes and folk motifs in reds, teals, and deep greens.

This is Mino washi, the traditional paper of Mino City in Gifu Prefecture, a craft with a 1,300-year history. Furukawashiko has traded in it since 1835, and the paper is known for its pure white base, translucency, and durability, qualities that let these printed patterns sit crisp and bright on the surface. The mix of florals, checks, and traditional motifs pulls from kimono textile design, a lineage chiyogami has followed since papermakers began dressing up washi with pattern centuries ago.

Use it for origami, card fronts, box lining, or any small project where a bit of pattern goes a long way. A folded crane shows just how well the paper holds a crease while keeping its color and design intact.
