A birthday tucked inside a hollow tree feels like exactly the kind of party worth celebrating, and this scene by Afsaneh Tajvidi of JooJoo Paper brings it to life with a whole community of winged neighbors. A moth in a fuzzy coat holds a balloon at the base of the trunk while fireflies and bees flit between round windows strung with lights, a banner reading Happy Birthday stretched across the branches above. The artwork, hand-painted with gouache and printed in full color with gold foil and neon details, gives the glow of the lanterns and fireflies real shimmer against the soft white cover stock. It is a sweet, slightly magical way to send someone off into another year.
