Illustrated by Madeleine Floyd, the robin on this carton carries a sprig of mistletoe and a holly-leaf crown, a cheerful bit of artwork for a dozen chocolate eggs styled after the real thing. Inside, speckled sugar shells in shades of brown, white, and blue give way to layers of milk and dark chocolate, half filled with hazelnut praline and half with salted caramel.
These are made by the Chocolate Detective, the label of Chantal Coady OBE, who previously founded Rococo Chocolates in 1983 and now sources bean-to-bar chocolate from a single Ecuadorian farm for this curated collection. The robin has been one of the best-sellers from the outset, and it is easy to see why: the eggs are genuinely lifelike to look at and a pleasant surprise to bite into, with smooth caramel in some and a rich, nutty praline in others.
